Advantages of installing Solar Cell On-Grid, Off-Grid and Hybrid
21 October 2025
Installing solar cells isn't just about installing panels on your roof. There are different operating systems, each with its own advantages and solutions. Today, we'll take a closer look at the three main systems of solar cells.
1. On-Grid system (connection system to the power grid)
On-Grid systems are the most popular system for general residential use. This system generates electricity from solar cells for home use. If there is excess electricity, it can be sold back to the electricity authority according to specified conditions. Or if there is insufficient electricity at night, electricity can be drawn from the electricity authority immediately for use.
Advantages of On-Grid System
- Least investment
- No batteries required
- Fast return on investment
- Able to sell excess electricity
2. Off-Grid system (independent system not connected to the electricity grid)
Off-Grid or Stand-Alone systems are systems that are not connected to the grid. The electricity produced is stored in batteries for use during times when there is no sunlight or at night.
Advantages of Off-Grid Systems
- Suitable for areas where electricity is not available
- It is a 100% self-sufficient system
- No worries about power outages
3. Hybrid system
Hybrid systems combine the advantages of both systems by connecting to the grid and storing electricity in batteries for emergency use or during nighttime power outages.
Advantages of Hybrid System
- Highly flexible
- Reduce electricity bills significantly
- Electricity is available all the time
- No need to worry about power outages
